A Picture of the Father in the Parables
Rembrandt 1669
Yahshuah gives us a picture of the Father in the parables; he gives us a dozen quick
stories to show us what He is like. And he gives one story to tell us what he is not like.
- He is like a joyful father so generous in preparing
his son's wedding that he invites vagabonds, and whosoever. But he expects the
wedding guests to behave, or out they go (Mt.22:1).
-
He is a generous gift giver. He gives gifts to
people, but expects them to use them and not waste them (Mt.25:14).
-
He is like a merciful king who forgives unpayable
debts, but expects others to do so too, or they end up in a prison for the
merciless (Mt.18:21).
-
He is like generous farmer, who is generous to the
point of being criticized (Mt.20:1).
-
He is not like an unjust Judge who won't help you
unless coerced, or bribed. He is willing to quickly help you (Lk.18:1).
-
He is like a longing Father who does not demand
anything of his prodigal son who returns to him; no sacrifices, no payments,
not even apologies. (Lk 15:11).
-
The only time we see him angry is with violent men
who have killed his messengers (Mt.21:33). He will destroy them.
-
He is like a good shepherd who seeks his missing ones
until he finds them (Lk.15:4).
-
He is like a fearless physician who goes among the
sick with great kindness and never charges them (Mt.9:10).
He is like a treasure hunter and you are a treasure
he finds in a field, you are a pearl of great price, and he will pay all he
has to make you his own (Mt.13:44).
-
He is like a traveler who finds you beaten and dying in the road and he brings you to the nearest
inn and pays all your bills until you are healed (Lk.10:25).
This is the Father Yahshuah showed us. Who could ask for a better God?
