What did David Teach about War?
Often because David is recorded as fighting in many battles people think that both David and YHVH approved of war , but David
wrote in Ps. 120:6
"Too long have I lived among those who hate peace. I am a man of peace; but when I speak, they are for war."
Here are David's words on War
and Peace written in 1000 BC:
Ps. 34: 14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Love your enemies and pray for them
Ps. 109:2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me:
they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me
without a cause.
4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
Do not be angry
Ps. 37: 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
YHVH hates those who love violence
Ps. 11:5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.
Do not avenge wrongs YHVH will avenge you
Ps. 18: 47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.
Don't Trust in the Military for help, Trust only in YHVH
Ps. 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
Ps.146: 3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in any mortal, in whom there is no help.
Ps. 33:16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield
Notes: Kings, president, and governments operate by the threat of death with armies and police and as such are anti-YHVH
(anti means substitute). The Followers of YHVH owe them no allegiance, nor fees, nor services, but unwillingly but politely pay all demands and
obey all laws that do not conflict with YHVH's teachings.
Though war should rise against us YHVH will protect us
Ps. 27:1-5 The LORD is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of
life- of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes
attack me, they will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.
5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
YHVH wants to give his children peace
Ps. 29:11 The LORD gives strength to his
people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
YHVH is a fortress
Ps. 31:2-7 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hands I commit my spirit 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men;
in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.
When trouble comes YHVH will show you where to hide
Ps. 32:7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble
Gabriel will watch over you when you are surrounded by enemies
Ps. 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Pray for your enemies and grieve for them as for a brother or mother
Ps. 35:13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting.
When my prayers returned to me unanswered,
14 I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother.
YHVH makes wars cease
Ps. 46: 9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into
pieces and snaps the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.
YHVH is our only defense
Ps. 62:1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence
YHVH will destroy war and save the meek
Ps.76:1 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.
2 In Shalom (peace) also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.
3 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle.
4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.
5 The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.
6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.
7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?
8 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,
9 When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth.
Vengeance only belongs to YHVH
Ps. 94:1O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself...
22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our
God shall cut them off.
Persecutions, wars and enslavements if they come are only temporary
Ps. 125:3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;
lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
The blood-thirsty pervert YHVH's message
Ps. 139:19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
20 Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! (NIV)
Continually pray for your enemies
Ps. 141.5 I am praying continually for them in their misfortune (HAR) 5 my prayer also shall be in their calamities. 6 When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet. (KJV)
YHVH is good even to his enemies
Ps. 145:9 YHVH is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 14 YHVH upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. 15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
Those who reverence and fear YHVH will have secure borders and peace
Ps. 147:10-14 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 YHVH takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy...
14 He makes peace in your borders, And fills you with the finest wheat.
