The Kid that Saved the World?

Note I will use the Hebrew names for Jesus (Yahshuah) and John (Yahchanan) and God (Yah).

Yahchanan (John) said of Yahshuah,
"Behold the lamb that takes away the sins of the world."

John was undoubtedly thinking Yahshuah was the lamb of the Atonement Ritual.

In Hebrew the word lamb could be either a goat or a sheep.

"Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats" ( Ex.12:5)

As shocking as it is to our English ears he probably was saying "Behold the goat  that  takes away the sins of the world." (John 1:29)

We call young goats kids.  A buckling (one year old he-goat) was used on the Day of Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement).  The animal that bore away the sins of Israel was a young he-goat and not a sheep.

Be that as it may, I believe John was wrong about Yahshuah for the following reasons:

  • Yahshuah never identified himself as a lamb, but only as a shepherd.
  • He said the shepherd would send the goats into the fire on the Judgment Day.
  • He said Yah does not want sacrifice.
  • Yahshuah did not die on the Day of the Atonement, but on the day of the Passover preparation.

That tells me Yahshuah rejected the idea that he was an atoning sacrifice and thus John's image of Jesus as the atonement goat was inappropriate. Some scholars who realize this, say that since Yahshuah died at the time the Passover lambs were slain, that John meant he was the Passover Lamb.

I realize it is very tempting to tie Yahshuah to the Passover Lamb, but that is exactly what Azazel, the devil wanted. He wanted people to believe that Yah is a God who demands blood. It is Satan's ultimate blasphemy against God. He accuses Yah of being  a blood-lusting God who killed his own son.
